This role is anticipated to be based within 240 miles of the border with Mexico, however, the final site location has yet to be determined.
About the Position The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Administration for Children and Families (ACF), and the Office of Refugee Resettlement's (ORR) Influx Care Facilities (ICF) care for 500 - 3,000 unaccompanied children (UC) crossing into the United States border, and you will grant these children with the highest practical level of physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being and quality of life.
The facility which operates under cooperative agreements and contracts, provides children with classroom education, health care, socialization, recreation, vocational training, mental and physical health services, access to legal services, access to Child Advocates (where applicable), and case management.
They also undertake ongoing efforts to identify and assess sponsors (relatives or other individuals) in the United States to whom the children can be safely released.
Key Responsibilities but not Limited to:
Maintain line-of-sight supervision of assigned children at all times, ensuring the physical safety of the child.
Support teachers with the delivery of educational services based on age appropriateness.
Collaborate with other providers in the ICF on behavioral management policies and protocols.
Assist children in accessing services related to culture, language, and religious observances.
Work with other Care Providers develop and implement recreation and leisure plans that include daily outdoor activities, weather permitting, for unaccompanied children.
The plan must include at least one hour per day of large muscle activity and one hour per day of structured leisure time activities other than television (three hours per day on weekends or holidays).
Recreation and leisure time activities are separate from the required physical educational requirement.
Work with other Care Providers in the ICF to develop overall Safety Plans, Individual In-Care Safety Plans, and Safety Planning for Off-Site Outings.
Take children for off-site recreation activities.
Screen television, movies, and video games for appropriateness before providing to children, Report violent and inappropriate behavior.
Preferred Qualifications High School Diploma or GED 1 to 2 years of employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting will be preferred.
Drive and compassion to aid vulnerable populations.
Must be Bilingual - English & Spanish (written and oral).
Highly encourage to apply if you speak any Mayan dialect and/or other language.
CPR Certification preferred.
Additional Information:
Shift work hours may vary (Ability to work flexible hours and weekends) Must be willing to undergo a background check.
Must be willing to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement and Code of Conduct, which details required behavior by staff when supervising unaccompanied children.
